I write a lot about positive thinking and how it can change your life. I can talk (or write) all day long about how thinking positively instead of negatively can make a huge impact on your life. While it’s nice to read about it it finally dawned on me that some people need definitive proof of some things. I’m a visual learner and things sink into my brain better by seeing them as opposed to hearing them. That means I love books with pictures……LOTS of pictures. Seeing a picture helps me to remember the information I’ve learned so much better than by just reading about it.
Back in the early 1970’s there was a song written and recorded by Johnny Nash called “I Can See Clearly Now”. It’s a catchy little song with happy lyrics. I’d sing along with it every time it came on the radio. Even though I knew every word by heart I never really listened to the song. I just sang the words on auto-pilot. Continue reading
There’s a quote by Joseph Campbell that says “The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” I love this quote because it’s so spot on the truth about what fear is. Fear literally keeps us from all the good things in our life if we allow it. We fear failure. We fear rejection. We fear being told no. We fear being shunned, ridiculed or laughed at. We even fear fear itself. Fear can keep us in a stranglehold if we let it. Continue reading
In life it’s really the little things that bring us the most joy. It’s not the big things at all like one would think. It’s not the big house, the expensive car or the vacation to an exotic island. Instead, it’s the smile on your child’s face when they excitedly show you the artwork they created. It’s the supportive text from a dear friend that comes right at the exact time it’s needed with the exact words that are needed. It’s having your husband tell you he still looks forward to coming home because of you, even after 30 years together. It’s having your dog get excited when you come in the door, even if you were only gone for an hour. In the madness of our everyday life we must stop and appreciate those little things despite all the craziness going on around us. We must find joy amidst the chaos. Continue reading
Unless you’ve been living under a rock your entire life you’ve no doubt heard the song “Auld Lang Syne”. It’s traditionally sung on New year’s Eve to ring in the new year. You’ve probably sung that song many times and never given a second thought to what exactly those three words mean. Continue reading
Years ago there was an ongoing skit on Saturday Night Live about a character named Stuart Smalley. Stuart hosted his own self-help TV show called “Daily Affirmation With Stuart Smalley.” Stuart was a man who had low self-esteem stemming from his dysfunctional family and he belonged to many different support groups, some of them being fictional. His mission was to help others feel good about themselves through sharing his own experiences in life. Continue reading
We all have that safe place in our lives known as our comfort zone. That’s the place we know that we have control. We’re in charge while we’re in our safe place. That small box known as our comfort zone is actually very confining and if we never venture out of it then we will never grow as we were meant to. Continue reading
